Max Scherzer Reaches 3,000th K Milestone, Pitches Immaculate Inning

Sep 13, 2021 9:01 AM

Max Scherzer got his 3,000 strike out milestone and took a perfect game into the eighth inning as the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 8-0 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.

"In the fifth or sixth, I realized I had something going there," he said. "Once I was able to get through the sixth, I was like, 'I got a chance to do this.'"

Scherzer retired his first 22 batters, including Fernando Tatis Jr. just before Eric Hosmer doubled to deep right with one out in the eighth. The crowd of 42,637, including his wife, three children and parents, saluted Scherzer with a standing ovation after he finished the inning, his second of the day.

Sep 10, 2021 5:45 PM

A video tribute, a No. 17 tile from the scoreboard and two standing ovations were all part of Kris Bryant's day as he returned to Wrigley Field on Friday for the first time since being traded by the Chicago Cubs to the San Francisco Giants in July.

"I've never stepped foot on that [visitors] side of the concourse," Bryant said with a laugh in the dugout before the game. "I was lost. I had no clue where I was going."
